Washed Out: Jessy Lanza / Jacques Greene / She-Devils / DJ Sober at Bomb Factory

The sonically segregated nature of today’s musical landscape lends itself to tricked-up titles for sub-genres. Chillwave is one of the more notable ones, to be sure. Over the past decade, chillwave has gone from quirky newcomer with plenty of buzzy artists to an almost forgotten realm featuring only a few veteran standouts worthy of attention. Washed Out, the synth and sample-heavy project from producer Ernest Greene, fits into both eras of chillwave thanks to a pair of stunning records that mix lo-fi, psychedelic and danceable grooves in pop-tastic packages. Washed Out is the headliner for GVSB, an annual festival put on in part by the Texas music blog Gorilla vs Bear.
