The newly-crowned Best Chef in the Southwest is making a roadtrip to Dallas, and you can meet him. Aaron Franklin, the "barbecue wizard" behind Franklin Barbecue in Austin, will be at the Wild Detectives book store in Oak Cliff on Sunday, May 31 from 5-9 p.m.

The free event is called a "meat and greet" -- because you'll meet, greet and eat. (So neat!) Wild Detectives will serve smoked sausage from an unnamed local barbecue joint; Franklin is not cooking.

He will likely read from his cookbook, Franklin Barbecue - A Meat Smoking Manifesto, then answer questions and sign books.

Franklin is the first barbecue pitmaster to win a James Beard Award. He's one of a handful of chefs helping make Texas barbecue famous beyond our borders.

The day after this event, on Monday, June 1, Franklin will cook a sold-out dinner with Dallas chef John Tesar. For Franklin fans without a ticket to the June 1 dinner, the May 31 book signing is your chance to meet Texas' most famous pitmaster.

Register in advance here. Go early.
