Black Filmmaker Series

The Texas Theatre, South Dallas Cultural Center and the African American Museum team up to present the 2nd annual Black Filmmaker Series in conjunction with Black History Month. This year's films are an eclectic mix by black directors and short features by film students at North Texas colleges and universities. Some films will be screened at the African American Museum in Fair Park. Tickets are $1.

Feb. 2 - House Party (1990). At The Texas Theatre at 2:30 p.m.

Feb. 9 - Body and Soul (1925). An early feature film by pioneering “race” filmmaker Oscar Micheaux. This restored edition features new original Music by Paul D. Miller, aka DJ Spooky.

Feb. 10 - Black Panther (2018). At The Texas Theatre at 2:30 p.m,

Feb. 16 - Medicine for Melancholy (2008). Barry Jenkin’s little seen first feature, made eight years before his Oscar-winning Moonlight, shows his immediate skill with the relationship melodrama and signaled a theme and skill that evolved and paved way towards his new film If Beale Street Could Talk.

Feb. 22 - The Watermelon Woman (1996). At The Texas Theatre at 6:30 p.m.
