Beer-toting Budweiser Clydesdales jaunt through downtown Dallas

The Budweiser Clydesdales are an iconic piece of American history.

Their debut coincided with the repeal of Prohibition when they ceremoniously delivered the first cases of Budweiser to the White House after the 21st Amendment was enacted. Nearly a century later, the horses are still one of the most beloved mascots in the country (not mention one of Bud's rare marketing tools that resonates with craft beer-savvy Millennials).

Standing about 12 feet tall and weighing roughly 2,000 pounds, the Clydesdales are equally majestic and adorable ... and daunting if you get too close.

Eight of them are trotting around Dallas Jan. 23-24 ahead of an Anheuser-Busch's conference. GuideLive caught up with them at American Airlines Center in downtown Friday night. See where you can snap a selfie with them below.

Clydesdales fast facts

The Budweiser Clydesdales, which debuted in 1933, come from long lineage of beer-toting horses. Anheuser-Busch breeds at Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville, Missouri, outside of St Louis.

The horses that travel the country are usually between four and 15 years old.

There is a protocol to be recruited, says handler Rudy Helmuth -- they must be neutered males with the proper markings, such as white stockings and white stripes on their faces.

The Clydesdales' horseshoes are, on average, eight inches wide, 20 inches long and weigh about five pounds.
