Interested in trying virtual reality? Test out the HTC Vive at GameStop in Plano

Slowly but surely, the virtual reality revolution is coming. It's hit PC gaming pretty hard over the past month with the release of the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive (which was made in collaboration with Valve, which is a familiar and typically trusted name to PC gamers).

The problem is that getting your hands on what of these VR headsets is no easy feat. In addition to needing a very beefy/costly PC to run VR software, an Oculus Rift will run you $599 -- and your unit won't even ship until around August, due to low supply and high demand. The HTC Vive, meanwhile, will run you $799.

Not exactly something you can drop money on "just to see what the fuss is about."

But VR gaming is actually really, really cool and it's worth checking out. It's also hard to get a real feel for via video alone, as you can't experience the sense of "being" in VR without actually strapping the thing to your face. So what's the solution?

10 GameStop locations throughout America will soon host demonstrations of the HTC Vive. One of those locations is in Plano.

That news was first revealed by Game Informer (of which GameStop is the parent company), though they were light on specific details about the demonstration and what it would entail. Neither does GameStop's page about the event.

Demonstrations begin on April 16, and they will take place every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from through April 24, then switch to happening only on weekends.

The participating Plano store is at 2201 Preston Road, Suite E.
