'Battleborn,' the next game from Frisco-based Gearbox Software, has been delayed

If you've been waiting for the next big thing from the studio that brought you Borderlands, you're going to have to wait a bit longer.

Gearbox Software (which recently moved from Plano to new offices in Frisco) announced that Battleborn has been pushed back from its Feb. 9, 2016 release date to May 3, 2016. The three-month delay also puts it outside of the current fiscal year for the game's publisher, 2K.

On Twitter, the developer explains the delay in simple terms: "Creating new IP is hard, and we can't help but be Gearbox."

The team is coming hot off the heels of a "Closed Technical Test," during which a selection of people got to experience a small, early chunk of the game. It's unknown how much the data from that test informed the decision to delay the final product, but Gearbox does say the extra time will allow them to "act on the feedback." An open beta for the game is still planned for next year.
