Valve Software's Doug Lombardi is speaking at SMU, and you can watch it live on Twitch

Valve Software is a juggernaut in the world of PC gaming, and not just because they've released some great games (like the blockbuster Half-Life, the immensely clever Portal or the eSports hit Dota 2). Valve's digital distribution service, Steam, is the go-to storefront for playing games on a computer. If you're a PC developer, big or small, you probably want to be on Steam.

One of the ways for independent developers to land on the Steam store is through Greenlight, a service where Steam users vote on games they'd like to buy and/or play. Valve's vice president of marketing, Doug Lombardi, will be talking about that process and more on independent game development during a talk at SMU today for an event tied to Guildhall, the school's game development program. "During the event, Lombardi will explore the many factors content creators should consider as they prepare their work for consumer purchase," SMU's website says.

The talk, titled "Ship Something: The Steam Greenlight Process," will take place at 2 p.m.  in the Vester Hughes Auditorium on the main SMU campus. Admission is free, but limited. You can register for a spot at the lecture here, assuming the space is not yet full.

Can't make it to SMU for the talk? Don't worry. The entire thing will be streamed on Guildhall's Twitch channel.
