'Disney Infinity 3.0' is real, is 'Star Wars' focused; here's the first trailer

As rumored and, frankly, expected, the next Disney Infinity game will heavily feature Star Wars characters in addition to content from Disney, Pixar and Marvel. The game was formally unveiled as the cover story for the June cover story for Game Informer, with a press release and first trailer following later.

The game's starter set, which will retail for $64.99, comes packed in with the "Twilight of the Republic" playset, a Star Wars: The Clone Wars-themed set starring Anakin and Ahsoka. Another playset, "Rise Against the Empire,"is focused more on highlights from the original Star Wars trilogy, allowing you to play as classic characters like Leia and Darth Vader.

As you can probably imagine, there will also be a playset devoted to the upcoming Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. That set will hit stores this winter, and similar to last year's Marvel-focused sets, Star Wars characters can cross over into one another's worlds, meaning you can play as Obi-Wan and Han Solo in a variety of scenarios.

Speaking of Marvel, the Avengers will be getting some more love as well, with character models of Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor and the titular Age of Ultron villain Ultron making appearances on the Game informer cover.

Disney-wise, I'm excited that there will be figures for Sam and Quorra of the Tron: Legacy fame (or the Tron 3 fame, as both characters are expected to show up in that whenever it finally releases), Olaf from Frozen, Mulan, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and, presumably, more. On the Pixar side of things, their new film Inside Out will be getting a series of figures based on its characters.

One other detail teased in the Game Informer preview: Power discs will no longer be sold as blind packs -- you'll be able to see what you're buying. That's a big change that could eliminate a lot of item trading between fans, but it sounds like a consumer-friendly idea.

You can watch the game's trailer above and check out the next issue of Game Informer if you want more info, but I'm already excited to check out Disney Infinity 3.0 when it's released this fall.
