The 20th annual QuakeCon gaming convention (well... it's more like a huge LAN party)is hitting the Hilton Anatole in Dallas July 23 through 26. While you can drop by for free to play some unreleased games and see some panels, a seat at the main event, the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer area) will cost you some cash.
Registration for the BYOC kicks off soon, but it will be done in multiple rounds with varying prices and packages with the first round kicking off March 4. That initial wave of sign-ups will be for the limited, highly expensive "UAC Command Center Seating" package that will be sold for a hefty $500. Only 32 of them will be sold, but they're special seats in the center of the BYOC, at the NOC. This package also comes with express check-in, special seating and panels and presentations and all the swag that the less expensive tiers get.
Prices go down from there on various registration dates with varying degrees of bonus stuff for your extra money.
If you're on a budget, the standard, barebones "Select-a-Seat" package doesn't start until March 25 at 7 p.m. CT. The price went up five bucks to $55 (a bummer, but nothing compared to last year's price hike) and is limited to 1,600 seats.
Bethesda and Id Software are also getting the community involved in the 20th anniversary with a "Design Your Own BYOC T-Shirt" (BYOBYOCT) contest, the winner of which gets a BYOC seat and more goodies.
If you want to stay at the Hilton for the duration of the event (because time spent driving home every night is time spent not playing Quake Live), they're also doing QuakeCon special rates for rooms.
