Costumes are encouraged when Dallas bar The Whippersnapper near Henderson Avenue becomes a den for Harry Potter fanatics on Aug. 8.

The bar is known for such shenanigans, having become a Family Guy bar overnight in early 2019, renaming itself The Drunken Clam, a popular watering hole in the cartoon's fake world of Quahog. An unrelated bar became a Game of Thrones shrine in spring 2019. So, yes: Dallasites seem to like TV- and movie-themed bars.

For the Harry Potter makeover, the bar will be called The Leaky Cauldron. Of course, avid Potter readers know what that is: It's the pub in the Harry Potter book and movie series, and it's the entrance to Diagon Alley. As the J.K. Rowling stories go, the pub is run by a wizard. Here in Dallas, muggles are welcome at The Leaky Cauldron, too.

The timing is no magic trick: The Leaky Cauldron debuts a day before the start of a Harry Potter convention in Dallas called LeakyCon. The actor who plays Draco Malfoy will be there. Find details on LeakyCon here.

Dallas' version of The Leaky Cauldron will serve themed drinks and include appearances from Harry Potter cosplayers. Plus: You can be dressed as a character too. Think of the Instagram opportunities.

With the flick of a wand (and, you know, a lot of work from some folks at the bar) The Leaky Cauldron takes on its new identity this week. It's expected to be open for about a month, until Sept. 7, but if the Family Guy pop-up is any indication, it might remain open longer.

Will Daniel Radcliffe, the star in the "Harry Potter" films, make an appearance at Dallas' new bar, The Leaky Cauldron? Chances are extremely low. But the wizarding world is an unpredictable place.

Perhaps it depends on how many muggles toss back a few too many (butter)beers.

The Leaky Cauldron (née The Whippersnapper) is owned by the operators of Dallas bars and restaurants Alice, High Fives, Tiny Victories, Ferris Wheelers and Dibs on Victory.

The bar is located at 1806 McMillan Ave., Dallas. As The Leaky Cauldron, the bar will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
