It's true, writes Dallas broadcast journalist Ron Corning on Twitter: "I'm leaving 'The Great 8.'"
Corning has been an anchor on WFAA-TV (Channel 8) since 2011. His last day on ABC in Dallas was in March.
Uncle Barky, the website of Ed Bark, former Dallas Morning News TV critic, broke the news of Corning's departure. Bark reports that Corning's expected exit was shared with WFAA employees via a memo on Monday, March 11.
Corning worked on the morning show Daybreak on weekdays with Kara Sewell, an anchor who arrived on air in Dallas in early 2018, replacing Alexa Conomos. When Corning first started at WFAA in 2011, he worked with the station's then morning anchor, Cynthia Izaguirre.
The station has seen more movement lately, as anchor John McCaa retired in early March. Bark notes that meteorologist Greg Fields will be the "longest-standing member of the Daybreak team" now.
In addition to Corning's job on TV — which requires getting up very early — he hosted events over the years like Fashion's Night Out at NorthPark Center, the Dallas Furniture Bank luncheon, the Carol of Lights Show and more.
Bark notes that Corning's next job is "still very much up in the air" and that WFAA's executive news director Carolyn Mungo will post a job listing for Corning's replacement "shortly."
