Plano native Marsai Martin has been named to Time magazine's list of "Most Influential Teens of 2018."
Marsai stars as Diane Johnson on black-ish. The 14-year-old is one of 25 teens on the annual list.
Other teens on the Time magazine list include royal wedding cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, 19; Olympic medalist Chloe Kim, 18; actress Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, late of Mad Men), 19; and British activist Amika George, 19.
Marsai, who has been a professional actor since the age of 5, studied performance at Cathryn Sullivan's Acting For Film Studio. The school's alumni roster is strong; other luminaries include singer-actress Selena Gomez (Hotel Transylvania movies); singer-actress Demi Lovato (Sonny With a Chance); and Thomas Mann (Kong: Skull Island).
Marsai has won two NAACP Image awards, a Young Artist award and a Screen Actors Guild ensemble award for her role on black-ish. Next, she will star in and executive produce a movie, Little. Marsai is also an accomplished singer, performing in an anniversary celebration of Dreamgirls.
