TBAAL wins another Emmy for its 'Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement' concert

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters can celebrate another Emmy win for its annual concert.

The Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement Concert is the organization's tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King. It aired on TXA-21/CBS 11, which shares the award.

TBAAL founder Curtis King created the event and directs and produces it.

The win was for special event coverage, other than news or sports in 2017.

The organization repeated the win for the 2018 event, which featured star performers Rahsaan Patterson and B Slade. The children of legendary entertainers Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee also presented a gift of a bench used in Purlie Victorious during the concert.

The 2019 concert will pay tribute to the late Aretha Franklin. R&B singer Melanie Fiona and gospel powerhouse Dorinda Clark-Cole will sing in front of the TBAAL Concert Choir during the program on Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Meyerson Symphony Center.
