'Dumplin' ' author 'gobsmacked' that the movie version starring Jennifer Aniston will be on Netflix

Fans can get a sample of the Dolly Parton soundtrack on Friday.

Dumplin' , the Jennifer Aniston movie based on the best-selling  novel by North Texas' Julie Murphy, is headed to Netflix.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the film will debut on the streaming service later this year. Danielle Macdonald of Patti Cakes$ will star as the plus-size teenager who signs up for her mom's beauty pageant in a small Texas town.

Murphy, of course, was more than a little excited about the news:

Reached by email Wednesday afternoon, she wrote:  "I'm just gobsmacked honestly. There have been so many moments when this project should have failed, but there's just somehow, someone's always been there to carry the torch. I love the cast and the script and the finished product is just a delight."

The movie, she explained, has been in the works since the summer of 2015, when Disney initially acquired the film rights. The rights passed through different hands, and the film was ultimately made independently in late 2017.

Netflix did not say when the film would air. However, Dolly Parton said that her soundtrack to the film is set for release Nov. 30

Fans won't have to wait long to get a taste of the project:  Parton is recording new versions of some of her classics with the likes of Sia and Miranda Lambert. A new version of 1971's "Here I Am"  will be released Friday, Sept. 14.  Alison Krauss, Elle King, Mavis Staples and Rhonda Vincent are also slated to be part of the soundtrack.

In her email, Murphy said: "Dolly Parton's soundtrack for the film is an absolute gift and I just have to pinch myself every time I remember that this is all real and it's happening. I'm thankful for this experience, but most of all I'm thankful for the countless people behind the scenes working tediously to make it happen because, like me, they believe that stories should come in all shapes and sizes."

Dumplin', the novel,  topped the New York Times' best-sellers list. Her other books include Puddin', Side Effects May Vary and Ramona Blue.
