Drag superstar Alyssa Edwards (and her dance company) shines in Netflix series 'Dancing Queen'

Superstar drag queen Alyssa Edwards has added another jewel to her crown with a new Netflix series.

Dancing Queen -- part documentary, part comedy, all Edwards -- follows the ups and ups of Justin Johnson, also known as Alyssa Edwards, as he goes through life, love and everything in between. It also follows his Beyond Belief Dance Company (which was on America's Got Talent) as it prepares for a new competition season.

The series, released Oct. 5, was filmed in and around Johnson's hometown of Mesquite. In it, Johnson drives his Mercedes up North Texas highways to the dance studio he founded, Beyond Belief.

Beyond Belief is a beehive of activity. But when he walks in, everyone looks up to him and his straightforward critiques. And, more than a vanity project, this show is about the dancers and why they toil at Beyond Belief. They get to be themselves, just like their teacher and mentor.

Edwards found worldwide fame and kept it when she appeared on the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race and its All Stars off-shoot. Johnson is the producer of Dancing Queen, with RuPaul Charles listed as an executive producer.

This isn't Edwards' first foray into a series of her very own. She also starred in one on YouTube, Alyssa's Secret. Like Dancing Queen, it is also produced by World of Wonder Productions.
