Erykah Badu stars as a gift-giving psychic and Mark Cuban cameos as a poker buddy in the new trailer for What Men Want that was released on Aug. 14.
In What Men Want, Taraji P. Henson stars as Ali Davis, a sports agent primed to make partner at her firm. She's disappointed when the boss gives another, male agent her ball to run with. A friend suggests she visit a psychic (a spectacularly coiffed Badu), who says "I can help you connect with men." After that and a wild night out in which she bangs her head, she starts hearing the thoughts of men.
The comedy also stars Aldis Hodge (Underground) as a potential love interest; Tracy Morgan (The Last O.G.); Richard Roundtree (always and forever Shaft); Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs, Bridesmaids); Max Greenfield (New Girl); and Brian "The Boz" Bosworth (Stone Cold).
Add the comedy to the list of distaff versions of movies past (see Ocean's 8 and Ghostbusters). Romantic comedy What Women Want (2000, PG-13, 127 mins.) starred Mel Gibson as an advertising executive who gains the ability to hear women's thoughts. Helen Hunt co-starred.
It seems Badu found time to have a major part in a major movie between a "spiritual" Tiny Desk Concert for NPR, styling and profiling during New York fashion week, granting revealing interviews, going to the circus, headlining the Riverfront Jazz Festival and consistently winning the Internet.
What Men Want has a scheduled release date of Jan. 11.
