No stranger to Dallas, the guy from the 'Dueling Banjos' scene in 'Deliverance' seeks forgiveness on TV's 'Nashville'

Ronny Cox is a veteran character actor with impressive credits, but he's also a singer-songwriter who has headlined several shows at Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse in Dallas

Ronny Cox resonates in one of Hollywood's most memorable takeaways, as the guitar picker in the "Dueling Banjos" scene in the 1972 movie Deliverance. A gifted character actor, Cox lives what some might call a double life. He's also a gifted singer-songwriter who, between 2003 and 2017, played multiple shows at Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse in Dallas. You can see Cox again, in a recurring role starting Thursday night, June 28, on the CMT series Nashville, now only a few episodes away from its grand finale. Cox plays the father of Deacon Claybourne, whose troubled past traces back to his dad, who now wants to make amends. Cox is days away from turning 80, but he remains an active presence on TV and movie screens and in music clubs across the country. Movie lovers may also remember him for having starred in RoboCop, which was filmed in Dallas.
