'All of it surprised me,' actress Keri Russell says of the series finale of 'The Americans'

Two of the show's stars carry strong Texas connections

The Americans is a Soviet spy drama that wraps up its sixth and final season at 9 p.m. central time Wednesday night. Set in the late 1980s, it's a Cold War thriller airing on FX, whose story lines have become even more topical with Russia inundating the headlines of 2018. Keri Russell and Margo Martindale play Soviet spies, and both have strong Texas connections.

Russell spent time growing up in Coppell, and Martindale hails from Jacksonville in the Piney Woods of deep East Texas. It's a series finale that may leave viewers surprised, even stunned. "All of it surprised me," Russell said of the final script, during a conference-call interview on Thursday. "I had no idea what was in store. I've grown accustomed to just trusting them," she said of the show's writers.
