Jamie Foxx will receive an honorary degree during East Texas college graduation

Jamie Foxx might be gearing up for the second season of his game show, but he has to make it to Texas first.

Jarvis Christian College will honor the Texas native during commencement on Saturday, May 5. Foxx, who is scheduled to attend, will receive an honorary doctorate. The event will be at E.W. Rand Center on the campus of JCC in Hawkins.

The commencement speaker also has Hollywood ties: Jesse J. Holland wrote Amazon bestseller The Black Panther: Who Is the Black Panther? The book, for which the paperback will come out next week, was commissioned by Marvel to pair with its record-breaking film.

Holland also wrote Star Wars, The Force Awakens: Finn's Story, Black Men Built the Capitol and The Invisibles: The Untold Story of African American Slavery Inside the White House.
