Texas-based drama series inspired by legacy of Selena Quintanilla in development at ABC

The good news: ABC has closed a deal for a pilot commitment on a drama series inspired by legendary singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez.

The catch is: it's not exactly about Selena.

The show does not have a name at this time, and will not be about the singer's life. Instead, it focuses on a character named Alex Guerra, who is an award-winning pop star that's been alienated from her family for five years.

The singer tries to pick up the pieces when a crisis forces her to return home. Guerra finds herself back in Texas, juggling a love triangle, the demands of her career and the dark secrets of the family that she now desperately wants to win back.

The ABC Studios, Campanario Entertainment and SB Projects deal has some notable names working on it drama series.  Scandal writer Miguel Nolla is on the project, which has support from the Quintanilla family. Music producer Scooter Braun is also attached.
