Dallas-shot 'Queen of the South' wins best prime-time series at Imagen Awards

Queen of the South won big at the 32nd annual Imagen Awards last week.

The drama won best prime-time television series. And Peter Gadiot won best supporting actor for his role as James, everyone's favorite brooding henchman to fan favorite Veronica Falcon's Camila Vargas.

Queen of the South follows the phoenix-like rise of Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga) in the drug world. The show is mostly filmed around Dallas and at South Side Studios on Lamar Street.

But it was Justina Machado, who played beleaguered best friend Brenda on Queen of the South, who may have been the biggest winner of all.

Not only did she get to share in the QOTS victory, Machado won best TV actress for her role in One Day at a Time. The Netflix re-imagining of the Norman Lear show took home awards for best TV comedy; best young TV actor Marcel Ruiz; and best TV supporting actress Isabella Gomez.
