New 'Game of Thrones' teaser gets us ready for war

A 'Thrones' promo with our Mad Queen, Mother of Dragons and White Wolf sitting down in spiffy thrones? Sure as heck beats watching a block of ice melt.

A Game of Thrones promo with our Mad Queen, Mother of Dragons and White Wolf sitting down in spiffy thrones? Sure as hell beats watching a block of ice melt.

We Thrones fans have been put through our paces recently. We've had to deal with the months-long delay of season 7 from the traditional April launch with hardly anything show-related to pass the time. And don't even get me started on the hourlong Facebook Live video where fans literally watched ice melt in order to just get a premiere date.

With all that behind us, HBO now deems us worthy of a proper teaser trailer. This 1:32-minute promo still isn’t a true trailer — most of this footage probably won't be in any episode — but it’s much more than we’ve gotten so far in the wait for season 7. Plus, it’s just cool.

Or with:

Set to a spin on “Sit Down” by James, we get to watch Daenerys, Cersei and Jon Snow do just that in their respective seats of power. Once Cersei gets comfy in the Iron Throne, she gives out an icy exhale that gradually takes us through an eye of one of the show's true Big Bads, a White Walker. The board is set for a battle royal between the last rulers standing.

What’s new and awesome here (apart from Cersei and Dany’s bada** new outfits, obviously) is how Cersei has Lannister-ed up the Red Keep — and where we see the Mother of Dragons.

POTENTIAL SPOILER: Although the promo doesn't say as much, her impressively cut-and-polished throne is likely in the main hall of Dragonstone, the island fortress where we've previously seen the late Stannis Baratheon brood. This would be a logical location for Dany to make camp as she launches her invasion of Westeros, as Dragonstone is where her ancestor Aegon I launched the first Targaryen takeover. <END POTENTIAL SPOILER>

Since we don’t get any in-episode footage here, we’ll probably get a real trailer in the next month or so.

Game of Thrones season 7 (finally) premieres July 16.
