George W. Bush tells Jimmy Kimmel about his first time at the White House, that poncho and where he gets his #realnews

President George W. Bush is making the rounds talking about his new book, Portraits in Courage: A Commander in Chief's Tribute to America's Warriors.

But an affable and engaging 43 talked about many other things. (This was after he requested a meeting with Kimmel sidekick Guillermo, "en Espanol.")

On Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting non-prowess: "Every time Cheney would come in, a lot of people would yell, 'Duck'."

His parents: "They're doing great. ... When he came out to flip the coin for the Super Bowl, it was a very joyful moment."

Or with:

The first time he went to the White House: "It was an arranged date" with Patricia Nixon in 1969.

Impersonations of him: None of them ever bothered him, including Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live, and the best was late comedian Steve Bridges.

But talk show hosts can't seem to leave one subject alone, and that's his struggle-is-real mishap with a poncho during the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, as well as the entire internet, poked fun at the former president for his trials and tribulations trying to stay dry, what the host called "his poncho problem."

On Thursday, DeGeneres pointed out that his mother, Barbara Bush, had a problem with a poncho, too, to which Bush said, "It's genetics." Then she presented him with a poncho -- with directions printed on the front. They also talked about his "surprise" friendship with former First Lady Michelle Obama and how "Jeb gave it his best shot."

Bush beat Kimmel to the punch (heh) about the meme-tastic poncho. When Kimmel asked him if he was "jealous about the size of the crowd at Trump's inauguration," getting a big laugh, Bush did a sidestep, and said, "I was there. I was the guy that tried to put the, uh, poncho."

G-Dub said he's a big believer in a free press to Ellen, and followed that up by telling Kimmel that he enjoyed the White House press dinners, saying, "The best humor is when you make fun of yourself." Kimmel didn't miss a beat: "Well, tell that to the the president."

He went on to prove his love of the press. He said he gets his news from The Wall Street Journal, and lo and behold, The Dallas Morning News. We'd like to say, "Thank you," to the person in the audience who let loose a hearty "Woo!"

"You're a funny man," 43 told Kimmel. Now, we're sure that President George W. Bush is, too.
