Get 'Star' treatment when mobile salon offers free blowouts at Klyde Warren Park this week

The TV show Star is going grassroots with the campaign to get you to watch its premiere on Fox.

The "Star Glam Tour" will go from sea to shining sea, including a stop in Dallas on Dec. 13, to spread the word about the new series.

Star is about three young women who hope to make it big with a girl group; it will be a theme night of sorts on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m. when the "special premiere" follows the fall finale of Empire. The new series stars the galaxy of Queen Latifah, Lenny Kravitz and Benjamin Bratt. (Watch for Naomi Campbell, Darius McCrary and Tyrese Gibson, too.)

The name of the show also belongs to one of the main characters. Star is impetuous and headstrong and does something early on that you know will come back around. Star, her sister, Simone and rich girl Alexandra run with their secrets to Atlanta to stay with Carlotta while they break into the music business.

The premiere episode plays like a movie, and moves that fast, too, which can be good and bad. The music is more integrated than that in Empire, which is just good. And everyone's getting their hustle on, a la Empire, which is also good. And I want that Queen Latifah introductory song. Now.

In case you missed the cues, the show is from Empire co-creator and executive producer Lee Daniels, who just got his star Friday on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

That leads us to Miss Carlotta's mobile salon, which will take you to another level with free manicures, blowouts, "braids services" and more on the "Star Glam Tour." A glam squad will do the honors while songs from the show play. Attendees who share using #STARGlamTour on social media will also get a chance to win some Star paraphernalia. (Queen gives it to 'em as Carlotta in the show.) Did we mention that it's free?

The tour will style and let you profile on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from noon to 9 p.m. at Klyde Warren Park, 2012 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Dallas. The tour started Monday, Dec. 5, in Nashville and will also hit Atlanta on Dec. 7; New Orleans on Dec. 9; Houston on Dec. 11; Los Angeles on Dec. 17; and Oakland on Dec. 19.

As for the show, it will go to its regular time slot with a new episode on Jan. 4.
