Need a distraction? 13 TV shows to watch Tuesday night other than the presidential election

Need to get away?

There will be four whole years -- or more -- to deal with this presidential election, so why not spend your precious time Tuesday night on something you might actually agree with: another channel?

In honor of term limits, here are options on TV besides watching election results roll in:

The Weather Channel

Whatever the political climate is, it's blue skies on The Weather Channel.

The network promises nine hours in a row of "the most tranquil and calming weather video ever caught on tape." The blue skies will start at 2 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8.

It may be just the escape you need from what The Weather Channel calls the "breathless tension" created by other media outlets. As the network said in a release, "As other networks go low, The Weather Channel goes high ... to the sky, that is" ... with smooth jazz as the soundtrack.

News Roundups

Catch up on the day's news you need to know.

Or with:

This is a Yule log-type idea I can get behind.

Nickelodeon

This won't completely let you get away, but it will offer some laughs amid teachable moments when North Texan Lizzy Greene and other Nick stars host a night of election-themed episodes of their shows.

They will also encourage their loyal kid viewers to vote in their presidential election. Nick will call its race at about 9:30 p.m., though. You know, bedtime.

The lineup starts at 7 with Henry Danger and ends at 9:30 with Greene's show Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn. I'm looking forward to Game Shakers at 7:30; Dub (Kel Mitchell) announces a run for mayor but needs to get over his fear of babies. Heh.

The CW

Election? What election? This network ain't got time for that.

There are worlds to be saved, after all. The alternate reality of The Flash may just be what the doctor ordered. In what was the season premiere, Barry has to decide to live in this world as the speedster or another where he can just watch someone else do it. 7 p.m. CW

After that, try out kooky freshman series No Tomorrow.

If Loving You Is Wrong

Tyler Perry has a slew of shows on OWN, including the fan favorite Have and Have Nots. But this Tuesday night belongs to If Loving You Is Wrong.

Get lost in the soap; it'll be like taking a spa bath.

Wyatt Earp and 'em

I never could resist a showing of Tombstone. (I once watched it six times in a row.) And neither should you.

Besides the fact that it was a mighty fine Western based on a real-life event and stuffed to the gills with star-power, Val Kilmer was genius as Doc Holliday. 7 p.m. CMT

Real Husbands of Hollywood

Some of you are laughing already. Kevin Hart and Nick Cannon are mainstays of Real Husbands of Hollywood, a spoof-errific show on BET where they play themselves -- or a version of themselves they hope they're not.

It's followed by another laugh riot, The Gary Owen Show. The comedian's reality show follows his travails with his family. It all starts at 8 p.m.

Cartoons

Steven Universe is at once touching and puzzling. But it can be intriguing at the least and captivating at its best.

Three guardians of the universe called Gems help raise Steven after his mother died. He's half Gem, don't you know, and Amethyst, Garnet and Pearl watch his six. This lyrical animated series has a devoted fan base. Find out why at 7 p.m. on Cartoon Network.

And then there's Gravity Falls. It's weird -- in a good way.

Twins Mabel and Dipper live with their gruncle Stan in a town where weird is the norm. There will be time machines, a triangular being named Bill intent on enslaving the universe, a pet pig and a grumpy old uncle. There's also a Gilmore Girls, Stars Hollow-like quality to life in the town.

It's worth at least 30 minutes of your time, an hour on election night. It starts at 7 p.m. on Disney XD, which has the best theme songs this side of "Cheers."

Yes, yes and more yes

This is the mashup you always knew you needed: Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party rolls out the series premiere again with "Putting the Pot in Potluck."

The darling duo -- they really are cute together -- have a competition to see who can make the best fried chicken. And they invite famous friends Ice Cube, Seth Rogen and Wiz Khalifa to  join the dinner party. Emphasis on party.

Set an alarm, do whatever you have to do, but this will be waiting for you on VH1 at 7 p.m.

And if you can't stand staying at home, go to the movies.

There. That should tide you over until the bright shards of morning.
