Bring on the flying sharks because 'Sharknado 4' has a name, airdate

Sharknado 4 has a name and an airdate.

Syfy and The Asylum, Sharknado's production company, announced Friday that the official title is Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. We can expect storm-launched sharks to make landfall July 31, 7 p.m.

We all know the premise -- sharks falling from stormy skies, mayhem, cutting devices, cameos, warmed-over actors getting in on the schlock. In this version, there has been a five-year drought of sharknados, "but now sharks -- and 'nados! -- are being whipped up in places (and ways) least expected," according to a release.

The 4th Awakens also makes sense from a marketing perspective. The franchise needs an awakening after the second sequel produced 1.1 million fewer viewers from the previous sequel.

Tara Reid will return as April Wexler to reveal the outcome of the fan-voted AprilLives or #AprilDies social campaign. (In Dallas, maybe we should start a hashtag campaign to get Mark Cuban back as POTUS, maybe something like #WheresMark because Cuban is still awaiting word on whether he has a part.)

Gary Busey is a cast newcomer and stars as April's dad, Wilford. The same guy who played a carny (Carny, 1980) is a lead scientist in the Sharknado-sphere.
