Fox will reboot '24' without Jack Bauer

24 is coming back, but Jack Bauer won't be the hero. Entertainment Weekly reports that Fox has ordered a pilot episode for 24: Legacy, which they hope will kickstart a new era of the show that first appeared in 2001.

Legacy will have an all-new cast (sorry, Kiefer Sutherland fans), with EW reporting that Fox is seeking an African-American actor as the lead.

"The 24 reboot is about a military hero who returns to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back - compelling him to ask the Counter Terrorist Unit for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil," EW says.

They also say that the real-time, split-screen format of the show will remain and that original series producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz are returning.

Fox supposedly wants to shoot the pilot "this winter," so we might be hearing about the cast sooner rather than later.
