Jack is back: New season of 'Samurai Jack' headed to Adult Swim in 2016

In a world where finished television shows can return for a surprise new season, (see: Heroes, The X-Files, heck, even Digimon) it's about time Samurai Jack got in on the action.

Announced this morning, series creator Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania, Star Wars The Clone Wars) is working on a new season of the critically acclaimed Samurai Jack, set to premiere next year on Adult Swim.

The series, which will be part of Adult Swim's Toonami segment, premiered in the early '00s and garnered a rabid fan base who were eager for more after the series ended following its fourth season.

The story follows Jack on his quest through time to take out Aku, a demon with terrifying abilities and a knack for looking all sorts of menacing. No word yet on casting, though the original voice of Aku, Mako I, died in 2006, and his input will surely be missed.
