The cast of HBO's comedy hit 'Silicon Valley' will appear on Twitch ahead of season two

Twitch has positioned itself as the leading source for live streaming of video game content online. HBO's comedy series Silicon Valley is... not a video game. But members of its cast are gamers, and the folks at Twitch and HBO evidently feel there's enough geeky crossover in the audience for a special live event on the service.

On Wednesday, April 8 at 2 p.m. central members of the cast -- Thomas Middleditch (who streams games on Twitch himself), Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr and Zach Woods -- will be on the official Twitch.tv channel to answer questions and interact with fans watching the stream. Following the Q&A, Twitch will stream the pilot episode of the first season, which they say is "a first for any television network."

The only problem, as I see it, is that the pilot episode is kind of old news. You'd think that anybody who's a fan of Silicon Valley -- enough of a fan to sit at their computer and watch the cast live on Twitch -- would have already seen the first episode of the series. They might even already have it on Bluray, so they can watch it on their own schedule. It would be far more exciting (and interesting, in the current landscape of TV and online streaming services) if Twitch was streaming the premiere of season two.

That said, I've found Silicon Valley to be a surprisingly entertaining show, and you should catch this opportunity to see it if you haven't. My wife and I devoured the all-too-short first season, and I'm anxiously waiting for more.
