It looks like 'The X-Files' is coming back for a six episode event

The truth is still out there, apparently, and only Mulder and Scully are properly equipped to look for it. According to Deadline, Fox has confirmed that The X-Files is returning to TV for a special six-episode "event series." It will be brought to you by series creator Chris Carter with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson retuning as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively.

"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," Carter said, referring to the time it's been since The X-Files ended its nine season run. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."

Deadline says that this series has been "in the works for almost a year ... starting around the time the studio and the network successfully brought back another signature drama, 24, as an event series."

A lot of beloved shows have been coming back lately for these shorter runs. Heroes is getting a sequel of sorts on NBC, Heroes Reborn, Arrested Development was resurrected on Netflix and more Twin Peaks is in the works at Showtime.
