Where to get your s'mores fix in Dallas-Fort Worth

It's the campfire treat that's become a staple among many restaurant menus; so irresistible you can't have just one. One of the most appropriately named sweets in all history, the toasty, crunchy, creamy goodness of a s'more is enough to make health nuts weak in the knees.

When Tillman's Roadhouse in Fort Worth announced earlier this week it is closing to revamp its image in favor of "clean eating," long-time fans hit Facebook pleading for the restaurant to keep the famous table side s'mores dessert.

We hear you loud and clear junk foodies! Here are 12 ways you can get your s'mores fix in Dallas-Fort Worth by the plate, by the glass or in true DIY fashion.

Talk about a silver lining to the Fort Worth location's demise -- the Tillman's in Dallas' Bishop Arts District will remain in tact. And yes that includes the s'mores, which come by the half order (four marshmallows; $8) or full order (eight marshmallows; $15). The dessert comes with house-made maple syrup and cotton candy-flavored mallows, all the necessary cracker and chocolate accoutrements, and an open flame, leaving you to roast to perfection.

Cafe Momentum was a welcome addition to downtown Dallas' barren dining scene when it opened this winter, courtesy of chef Chad Houser, but it's about more than just eats. The restaurant employs juvenile offenders in hopes of giving them life skills for future jobs — and it doesn't come easy. Cafe Momentum is a fine dining location, evident down to the s'mores dessert: a graham cracker crust topped with mocha panna cotta and smoked fluff ($8).

Picture this: A calzone made from fresh house dough and stuffed with, you guessed it, chocolate, marshmallows, and caramelized sugar, tossed in a wood-fire oven and baked 'til it's gooey in the middle. Yes, this dream is a $10 reality at Il Cane Rosso Neapolitan pizza joints in Deep Ellum (Dallas), White Rock Lake (Dallas), Fairview, Fort Worth, and presumably the forthcoming shops in Carrollton and Houston. Owner Jay Jarrier estimates the dessert weighs more than a pound and can feed four to six people, so bring friends.

Tom+Chee (Richardson)

Everything tastes better sandwiched between a glazed doughnut. At least that's the thinking at Richardson's new grilled cheese heaven, Tom+Chee, which boasts a whole menu of fun stuff melted between two slices of doughnut. The s'mores concoction ($5.36) squishes chocolate pieces, graham cracker and marshmallow mascarpone between grilled halves of glazed goodness. Excuse me, but you're drooling.

The Common Table (Dallas)

Common Table may predominantly known as a craft beer spot (one of the best if you ask us), but the restaurant also has a sweet tooth. In addition to novelties like Skittles Sangria, the restaurant and bar offers a s'mores dessert for two, which comes "classic," as owner Corey Pond put it, with graham crackers, chocolate bars and marshmallows to be toasted over an open flame in a cast iron pot ($9).

Cavalli Pizza

This McKinney pizza joint wraps the ingredients of a s'more into a pie. It begins with a layer of Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut spread topped with crumbled graham crackers and marshmallows. Once baked, it's garnished with more mallows and drizzled with chocolate. Diners can enjoy a small ($8) or large ($11) in house at the McKinney Cavalli, or pick it up to-go from the location in Irving.

Simply Fondue (all locations)

Simply Fondue marries the best of two desserts with its s'mores fondue. Chefs at both Dallas and Fort Worth locations make a dark chocolate fondue with imported chocolate and heavy cream before adding crumbled graham crackers and melted mallows to the pot. Now you're probably wondering, "How do I eat this goodness if it's already mixed?" Answer: By dipping fresh fruit, angel food cake and house-made rice crispy treats into the mess.

Lee's Grilled Cheese (Fort Worth)

A s'more in and of itself is a sandwich, but Lee's Grilled Cheese takes it one step further. Here the recipe calls for graham cracker-crusted bread between which are gooey layers of Nutella and marshmallows. The sandwich ($3.99) comes drizzled in caramel and is served at both the storefront and from Lee's Grilled Cheese food truck.

Bartender Jason Hanshew of People's Last Stand had the brilliant idea to bring the best elements of roasting s'mores to your glass with the Campfire Old Fashioned ($12). The base spirit, Johnny Walker Red, is infused in-house with four different coffee blends before Hanshew adds smoked hickory and mesquite wood to the bottle. Yes, it's literally wood-fired whiskey. The drink combines the Johnny Walker with chocolate bitters and a marshmallow toasted to order.

Bar Louie (all locations)

At Bar Louie, you don't have to wait until after dinner to indulge in dessert. The s'mores martini is a mix of Absolut Vanilla, Godiva chocolate liqueur, toasted marshmallow syrup and cream served in martini glass with a graham cracker dusted rim over a little extra chocolate syrup and topped with mini mallows. It costs $9 and is available at all D-FW locations (Park Lane, Fort Worth, FireWheel, Arlington Heights, Northeast Mall, and the Village at Allen).
