Best idea ever? LUCK pairing craft beer with bacon this weekend

If there's one thing we've learned from the local craft beer craze, it's that drinkers will pair just about anything with a craft brew, from the usual five-course meal to uncanny desserts like cupcakes and Girl Scout cookies.

From the creators of the infamous artisan doughnut and craft beer flight comes another match, equally if not more enticing -- a bacon and beer pairing.

That's right, LUCK restaurant in Dallas is serving a bacon and beer flight this Sunday, July 19. But this isn't your run of the mill, pre-packaged bacon. LUCK has a mesquite-burning smoker, which chefs use for in-house meats. (You've likely heard about the tasty pastrami sandwich.) So consider this while you take a look at Sunday's offerings:

  • Sweet and smoky bacon with a Marzen lager from Bitter Sisters Brewery;
  • Maple chipolte bacon with a fusion brown ale from Rabbit Hole Brewing;
  • Ginger habanero and pineapple glazed bacon with a coconut ale from 903 Brewers;
  • Pastrami bacon with a bock from Revolver Brewing.

The flight will cost between $16, says co-owner Jeff Dietzman. But there will only be 100 offered, so you'll want to get there early to secure one.

When LUCK first offered the doughnut and beer flight, supplies sold out within 17 minutes, and people were lining up at the doors long before the restaurant opened at 11 a.m.

If you can't make it to the bacon-beer pairing, you could always head to Globe Life Park in Arlington for some bacon-flavored beer (although reviews don't bode well). Also keep an eye out because chef David Pena at Braindead Brewing told me recently he wanted to do something similar in the near future.
