Diet be damned: Ice cream, doughnut and craft beer collabs are in the works

First there was creme brulee beer. Then there was funnel cake and birthday cake beer. Dieters look away because next on deck are ice cream-flavored beer and beer-infused doughnuts.

These magnificent concoctions come by way of two power couples -- Colorado's renown New Belgium Brewing Co. and Ben & Jerry's for the former, and Dallas' own Four Corners Brewing Co. and Glazed Donut Works for the latter.

Of course, dessert-flavored beers and beer-flavored desserts are not new concepts, but they are certainly some of the best. Here's the (not so) skinny on each one:

-- New Belgium will collaborate with Ben & Jerry's to create the Salted Caramel Brownie, a 6.3 percent alcohol-by-volume brown ale seemingly inspired by the ice cream company's Salted Caramel Blondie. Details of the partnership are still be solidified, but the beer is expected to market by the fall.

-- To flip the tables, Glazed Donut Works in Deep Ellum is creating a doughnut inspired by a yet to be released brown ale by Four Corners Brewing Co. called Soul Child, reports D Magazine. Glazed co-owner Darren Cameron told the pub the beer-infused sweet treat will likely have toasted pecans, toasted coconut and dark chocolate icing to match the beer's flavor. The beer will be a limited release tentatively available beginning May 1. As if that weren't enough to drool over, D Mag says Glazed plans to collaborate on a new beer doughnut every month from now on.
