Big Tex may get most of the local fair fanfare, but this 91st annual event in Denton deserves a tip of the ol’ Stetson, too. Between cheering professional, amateur and young cowboys and cowgirls in traditional rodeo events, meet the newly crowned rodeo queen court, browse photography and art exhibitions and see farm animals in a livestock show. Feast on cotton candy and deep-fried delicacies on the midway and enjoy a live music lineup featuring superstar acts such as Pat Green and Tracy Lawrence at county fair prices. On Aug. 17, there will be a rodeo parade starting at 10 a.m. at Denton High School. It will circle the downtown square before returning to the school. --Brentney Hamilton

The nine-day fair and rodeo offers activities for all ages including live concerts on two stages, horse and livestock shows, contests, cook-offs, food, kids fun zones, games, and diving and racing pigs. Gate admission includes the fair, rodeo events, livestock show and concerts. Presented by the North Texas State Fair Association, a volunteer-supported, 501 (c) (3) non-profit community organization that preserves and promotes western heritage and values.
