Liberty by the Lake

Jul 4, 2019 - Jul 3, 2019

UPDATE: Flooding and high-lake levels have caused this 22nd annual event to swap its traditional location, Stewart Creek Park, for new digs, but that is unlikely to dampen the fun. The 10K, 5K and 1-mile running events will begin at the LISD Natatorium at 5729 Memorial Drive, and remaining activities will move to The Colony Five Star Complex at 4100 Blair Oaks Drive. You can still expect a patriotic morning parade to follow the runs, plus an all-day, family-friendly expo with a kid zone, salsa shootout competition, watermelon-eating contest and fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. --Brentney Hamilton
The Colony's Independence Day festival on the shores of Lake Lewisville is a full day of family fun with live music, a family fun zone, BMX stunt show, sponsors' expo, homemade salsa competition, watermelon eating contest, and a big fireworks finale choreographed to live music (on 99.9 FM) at 9:30 p.m.

Pre-festival fun: Liberty 5k, 10k and 1 mile Fun Run begin at 7:45 a.m. Community Parade gets underway at 10 a.m. at Peters Colony Elementary School and finishes at The Colony Five Star Complex north parking lot. The festival grounds open at 11 a.m. Festival fun starts at 4 p.m.

Parking at Stewart Creek Park is $20. Free parking at Lakeview Middle School with free shuttle from 3 to 11:30 p.m. No dogs, no personal grills allowed. Coolers, lawn chairs and blankets are permitted.
