Charlie Sexton at Kessler Theater

The 2018 Ethan Hawke-directed film, Blaze, is one of the finest music biopics in recent years. Centering around the tragically short, drunken life of acclaimed songwriter Blaze Foley, the film showcases two surprising double-threat talents. Charlie Sexton, who is a guitar-slinging Austin blues legend and Bob Dylan’s longtime touring guitarist, expertly plays the role of another iconic, if doomed legend, Townes Van Zandt. Louisiana-dwelling singer-songwriter Ben Dickey stars as the film’s titular character, offering a powerful performance not often seen by first-time actors. Sexton is producing Dickey’s upcoming record, A Glimmer on the Outskirts, which means you can see these artists who have shared the screen and studio, share a stage as well.
