Mardi Gras goes to the dogs as hundreds of costumed pups take to the streets of downtown McKinney for the 16th annual Krewe of Barkus dog parade. This year's theme is "The Bark-A-Palooza Tour Around the World," which celebrates countries and cultures across the globe. Spectators will line the streets to view canines in costume, with prizes awarded in multiple categories. Patterned after the legendary Krewe of Barkus parade in New Orleans, the McKinney festival includes vendor booths and free activities for the whole family.

A small fee to enter the costume contest or register a float; free to watch or walk in the parade without a float.

Check-in for parade participants at 12:30 p.m. at Mitchell Park. The parade starts at 2 p.m.
