Stories about the black experience in America will take the stage and the screen during this annual festival that includes fiction and documentary films, an art exhibit, panels, workshops and performances of music, poetry and comedy. This year’s feature film lineup includes Steps, starring Rob Morgan, who plays Officer Powell in Stranger Things; Black Cops; Black Fatherhood: Trials and Tribulations, Testimony & Triumph; and The Uncomfortable Truth, in which filmmaker Loki Mulholland examines his family’s slave-holding past.

The 4th annual Denton Black Film Festival features more than 40 screenings including narratives, documentaries, shorts and more. Films will be screened in blocks. Tickets may be purchased for individual film blocks or an all-access festival pass is available for $179 ($149 for students and seniors). Additional passes go on sale Dec. 15. Screenings take place at the Campus Theatre (except for a Jan. 26 presentation of I Am Not Your Negro, which will screen at Silver Cinemas at 7 p.m.).

There will also be panels and workshops, music and art showcases, and spoken word and comedy performances at the Patterson Appleton Arts Center, the Point Bank Black Box Theatre and UNT on the Square. Check the festival schedule for details.
