Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives at Kessler Theater
Thor Christensen Recommends
Marty Stuart’s hair is so impressive it has its own Facebook page, but his cool ‘do wouldn’t amount to much if he weren’t also one of the best country musicians around. The Mississippi-born singer, guitarist and mandolin player learned his craft with two impeccable teachers: bluegrass legend Lester Flatt and later, Johnny Cash (his one-time father-in-law). But he’s been leading his own bands since the ‘80s, including his latest group, the Fabulous Superlatives. Their 2017 album, Way Out West (produced by Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers), mixes Buck Owens and Marty Robbins with flourishes of surf rock and the Beatles.
