Presented by Irving Parks and Recreation and Irving Arts Center, Children’s Day at the Theater offers a free performance of the classic story of Jack and the Beanstalk, brought to life by Geppetto’s Theater and a colorful cast of marionettes. Take a magical journey up the beanstalk with Jack to find his fame and fortune. Along the way you will meet Maynard the bean-seller, Rayana the rainbow fariy, and of course the Giant Blumberdore, who is actually kind and benevolent, but has been greatly misunderstood by the townspeople below. This show is told with meticulously hand-crafted marionettes and features a ‘Giant’ stage marionette over five feet in height that took artists four months to create. The performance is presented in bridge format (where the puppeteer artists are hidden from sight and manipulate the marionettes from a scaffolding above the stage). Shows of this type are a rarity in the United States. Not only is the show impressive to watch but the underlying story of acceptance and friendship is a heartwarming tale to remember. The show is rated ‘G’ for “great for all audience ages.”
