Whiskey Myers at House of Blues
Darryl Smyers Recommends
Hailing from the piney woods of East Texas, Cody Cannon has been leading Whiskey Myers for the better part of a decade. In that time, Cannon and crew have developed a solid regional following by mixing (of all things) Hank Williams, Led Zeppelin and Nirvana. Cannon’s country upbringing obviously came with a fine appreciated of classic songwriting that cuts across many genres. Whiskey Myers’ latest offering, Mud, is the band’s best effort to date. Filled with tales of rural wisdom dressed up with fiddle and loads of guitars, Mud is everything but subtle. Gloriously in-your-face, songs like “Lightning Bugs and Rain” and “Hank” are hillbilly anthems that swagger like drunken gunfighters bent on retribution.
