Dallas Videofest 29: Virtual Reality from New York Times at Angelika Film Center & Cafe (Dallas)
The New York Times has taken aggressive steps in confronting the new world and opportunities of the new digital news landscape. First by creating a new way to think about video and journalism with Op- Docs, and then moving into the world of Virtual Reality. VR, is often used for visceral thrills like a roller coaster, but the Times vision puts you into the world where news is happening in an unprecedented way. The took the extraordinary step of sending a vr player to every NYT subscriber. Doug Latino who has been working closely with this and other moves into the digital word, will tell you why and how the paper has done it Also show what they have learned what works and what does not work. VR is all the buz now but we are still waiting to learn what the visual language is. Doug will tell us all about it.
