New Allen restaurant has wholesome lunches, craft beer, late night snacks

Around this time last year, we told you the Allen restaurant scene was cooking like Grandma before dawn on Thanksgiving morning. That doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon for the formerly sleepy suburb.

Much of 2015's delicious buzz came from the Village at Allen near East Stacy Road. This week's enticing addition has popped up further south, on the opposite side of Central Expressway. Firewater Kitchen is now serving "food for your soul and drinks for your spirit" at Watters Creek, a walkable mixed-use development with a vibe similar to Dallas' West Village.

Firewater Kitchen serves American-style dishes such as flatbreads, burgers and traditional entrees ranging from beef ribs to red snapper. There are also tacos and a section dedicated to sopes, a Mexican dish that includes fried corn dough topped with meats, vegetables and sauces. There's a special late night menu as well as a fast casual lunch option with hot and wholesome items, catering to nearby office workers. When it comes to drinks, the focus is on local brews, and Firewater will be open late -- until 2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday -- for those planning to stick around after dinner. There are two patios and six HD big screens.

The new project comes from John Hidi, who formerly owned and managed Club Bliss in Dallas before opening and operating Spazo Restaurant & Bar in Allen. He brings 30 years of restaurant experience with him and Watters Creek was his "first choice" when it came to the location, a release says.

The Watters Creek development has 60 restaurants and retailers. Among them are outposts of popular restaurants Village Burger Bar, Cru Wine Bar and The Blue Fish -- and Firewater Kitchen is joined this week by the newly-opened Kendra Scott jewelry shop. A new location of Blo Blow Dry Bar is set to open on May 6 and stylish boutique hotel, Aloft, expects to open a new location with 136 rooms in spring 2018, according to the release.
