What's with those Lone Star Beer boots at some Dallas bars?

The "National Beer of Texas" is celebrating Texas independence this March, and wants your help preserving a state tradition.

In honor of Texas Independence Day, March 2, Lone Star Beer is releasing special "Come and Take It" cans and cases. Borrowing the revolutionary phrase from the iconic flag flown over Gonzales, Texas, in 1835, the 10 million cans will be available throughout the state in 12-ounce, 16-ounce and 24-ounce formats.

Once you order your special can, make sure to keep the aluminum tab and look at select Dallas-area spots for a boot on the bar.

Those boots are part of Lone Star's "Tabs and Caps for Texas." Simply throw your beer topper into the boot, and you're helping preserve an iconic piece of Texas history.

For every tab collected, Lone Star will donate $1 to preserve historic dance halls in the state with Texas Dance Hall Preservation Inc.

The preservation group works with historic halls across the state that struggle with dwindling numbers of dancers, costly repairs and more. TDHP executive director Deb Fleming said it's part of a statewide effort.

"The heritage and culture of Texas were born and developed in our historic dance halls and carry on today in these community centers and halls around our state," Fleming said. "[Lone Star Beer's] results will help secure our collective legacy and heritage with preservation grants and support for our historic halls."

You can find the boots right now at Gilley's Dallas, Cowboys Red River and Double Wide. More Lone Star boots are expected to pop up at other local bars during the month of March.

Lone Star Beer isn't just involved in helping Texas dance halls. The company says it also supports Texas charities like Feeding Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful.

After Hurricane Harvey, according to a press release, the company established the Lone Star Beer Disaster Relief Fund, and will donate 5 cents for every case of Lone Star and Lone Star Light sold in 2018 to help Texans recover from the storm.
