How much more Texan can you get? Whataburger, H-E-B joining forces for store

In a move that would rival Willie Nelson and Selena Gomez singing a duet at Gilley's, H-E-B will open a convenience store in Hutto on Monday that will feature a 24-hour Whataburger drive-through.

Whataburger and H-E-B are about to double-size their Texas-ness again.

In a move that would rival Willie Nelson and Selena Gomez singing a duet at Gilley's, H-E-B will open a convenience store in Hutto on Monday that will feature a 24-hour Whataburger drive-through.

It's not the first H-E-B/Whataburger combo. The first was in Lytle, southwest of San Antonio, which opened in 2012, and it's a hot spot that keeps growing, one frequent customer said.

"It brings two really good companies together and works really well," said Lytle Mayor Mark Bowen, who hits the place every week. "Both of them are really Texan, and that's what has been a really big calling card for them."

Whataburger and H-E-B, both based in San Antonio, have joined forces before. Since 2013, H-E-B has stocked an assortment of Whataburger-branded products, including ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, honey butter, pork sausage and Whatafries.

The closest H-E-Bs in North Texas are in Waxahachie, Burleson, Ennis and Granbury. H-E-B has several stores under its Central Market brand in Dallas but no H-E-B.

In case you're wondering: Hutto is that small town east of Round Rock that you end up in when you take the wrong exit off Interstate 35 heading into Austin. The next time you're headed to Austin, you now have a reason for accidentally exiting State Highway 130.

That new H-E-B/Whataburger in Hutto will be in front of an H-E-B Plus! that opened in November. The drive-through will feature your usual Whataburger favorites in addition to pizza, salads, sandwiches and sushi. It also has 10 fuel pumps and a car wash.
