UNT alum helps Moana make triumphant move to 'Disney on Ice,' which plays AAC this week

'Disney on Ice' is on tour and it's here in Dallas through Sunday, April 8.

It's even more of a special treat than usual. Dare to Dream is the first time that Moana will transition from the screen to a live production.

Fans at the tour's opening performance Wednesday were animated from the beginning of the show, dancing and singing along. A skater by the name of Emily served as a hype man of sorts and introduced hosts Mickey and Minnie. Goofy and Donald show up, too, but the stars of this show are the princesses.

Or with:

Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa and Moana acted out abbreviated versions of their stories while they skated and sang. Frozen's Elsa and her signature song "Let It Go" were in their natural element and it showed; fans -- adults, too -- sang along and clapped.

But cheers started loud and never stopped for Moana, who was joined on the ice by Maui the demigod, a beautiful representation of a manta ray and a showstopping "Shiny."

"I have had such an amazing time watching Moana go from the screen to the ice," said Amanda Perkins from backstage before the show. "Moana is one of the only segments in the show that doesn't have any rhinestones, which is very out of character for that show but ... it's perfect."

The graduate of Midlothian High School and UNT is the wardrobe coordinator for this iteration of the show, which is out on an 11-month tour. So. Many. Costumes. She said she is responsible for the care, repair

assistant.

"The key is to be incredibly organized and we never say no," Perkins said. "If something happens ... it's how do we fix it? Failure is not an option."

True that. If the mission was to make Moana even more popular, then this show is a success.
