The fidget spinner is the new (potentially annoying) hot toy

Forget bottle-flipping. Fiddling with a fidget spinner is the new most-likely-to-be-banned-in-the-classroom activity for the elementary and middle school set in Dallas-Fort Worth and beyond.

What's a fidget spinner? 

Well, it's a handheld gadget with arms that stick out from a bearing in the middle that allows it to spin in your hand. There are plenty of YouTube videos featuring tricks and comparing various brands:

What's the point?

One thing's for sure, local kids are clamoring for them because they're fun. They're marketed with claims they relieve anxiety, stress and ADHD, but expert opinions vary and many tend to say there's not enough research to back that up.  A smattering of schools across the country have banned the toys.
