Learn about scaly, slithering snakes at this Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center event. In addition to meeting live snakes, you can try crafts and check out educational displays. The event is being presented in conjunction with the Dallas-Fort Worth Herpetological Society.

New Play Street Museum in Plano

The Play Street Museum indoor play center opened a new location this month in Plano. It features an Adirondack- inspired village and campsite with adorable mini versions of a fishing pier, a general store, a camper and more. The original Play Street in Frisco features a teeny town with attractions including a shop, a restaurant and a doctor's office. At both locations, accompanying adults can play along or just relax.

The Plano location is at 5964 W. Parker Road and the Frisco location is at 5729 Lebanon Road. Both have open play hours Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (the Frisco location has additional play Mondays through Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m.). $11 per child ages 1 to 8 (includes a wooden token that can be exchanged for one snack), free for accompanying adults and babies younger than 1. playstreetmuseum.com.

Universoul Circus

It's your last chance to join the Soul Train line at this highly interactive one-ring circus with performers from the United States, China, Ecuador, Trinidad and Tobago, Ethiopia, Colombia and South Africa. August Dollar Days

Through Aug. 31, get $1 general admission and $2 Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden admission at the Dallas Arboretum as part of the August Dollar Days Special. While you're there, be sure to visit the Lay Family Garden to see the rare Victoria water lily, one of the largest types of water lilies in the world (each Victoria water lily blooms for only a single summer). Of course, there are plenty of other gardens to see on the arboretum's 66 acres. There will also be several food and drink specials for $1 to $2.

We're down to the final few days of the Dallas Zoo's half-price admission special. Splash in the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo's Stream, see the elephants in the Giants of the Savanna area, view the "Giants of the Jurassic" exhibition of animatronic dinosaurs and check out the hundreds of species housed on the zoo's 106 acres.
