Janet Watson and her friend Carol Schmitter, each with a Fletcher's Corny Dog in hand, scurry past Big Tex toward the shade where their fellow gal friends are waiting. The former Irving High School class of 1963 students meet up a few times a year, this time at the State Fair of Texas on a Thursday afternoon on Senior Day, the day people 60 years or older get in for free.
The 70-something women are not alone. Many of the people surrounding Big Tex are over 60. Connie Haley, who came to the fair on her birthday with a group from her retirement center said with a smile that there was "nothing better to do."

One thing's for certain: Whether they came for the corny dogs, the pig races or to simply stand in the shade, no matter how old, the fair is a place for the ageless.
