With 2017 theme, State Fair of Texas embraces importance of community

Community involvement is among the pillars of the annual event, now heading into its 131st year

Pride runs deep in Texas, and so does a sense of community. This year, Big Tex will be feeling the Lone Star Love, too.

The State Fair of Texas has announced its 2017 theme, "Celebrating Texans," a nod to the fair's "past, present and future neighbors" as it heads into its 131st year of celebrating all things Texan.

Community involvement is one of the annual event's three pillars, along with agriculture and education, and State Fair of Texas officials say the importance of community will run deep in the heart of Fair Park throughout the Fair's 24-day run.

The 2017 theme follows last year's agricultural motif, "Celebrating Texas Agriculture."

The Fair has grown from its 1886 roots as livestock exposition to become one of the most recognized such events in the country, but it's too early yet to know what deep-fried novelties will debut in Big Tex's shadow.
